At-Home Eye Exams: We are delighted to offer private eye exams for individuals who are hospitalized, bedridden, or simply unable to visit an optometrist’s office. Our mobile service brings comprehensive eye care directly to your location, whether at home, work, or anywhere else you prefer. Experience the luxury of personalized eye care in the comfort of your own space, with the convenience of not having to leave your surroundings.

Pop-Up Clinics: Keep an eye out for our dynamic pop-up clinics! Wherever the community gathers, Optician On Wheels is there to provide quick and accessible eye care services. Our pop-up clinics are designed to make prioritizing eye health easy and convenient for everyone.

Who and What is Covered by OHIP?

  • Children (19 years and younger) and seniors (65 years and older) receive fully covered annual eye exams under OHIP every 18 months.
  • Adults aged 20-64 years are not covered for routine eye exams but can receive covered exams every 12 months if they have specific eye conditions needing regular monitoring. Follow-up appointments related to these conditions are also covered. Covered conditions include:
    • Diabetics 
    • Patients with glaucoma 
    • Patients with progressive retinal disease affecting vision 
    • Patients with progressive corneal disease affecting vision
    • Other sight threatening conditions
    • Sight threatening emergencies such as corneal abrasions and ulcers
     

OHIP does not pay for retinal imaging (OCT) regardless of age or condition.

    We assess vision clarity, prescription accuracy, eye pressure, and overall eye health. Digital retinal imaging and additional testing are available when required.

    Is this service suitable for seniors or limited mobility patients?

    Absolutely. Mobile optometry is ideal for seniors, bedridden individuals, and patients with mobility challenges, eliminating the need to travel to a clinic.

    Yes. You receive your updated prescription immediately, along with professional recommendations for glasses or follow-up care if needed.
